Guest Blog or Podcast Content

This is part 5 of a 8 part series on Email Acquisition (and Lead Sources) .

What are guest blog posts?

A guest blog post is when you, the owner of a website, offer to write for another website’s blog. Sometimes this other website will be as big as Forbes or Entrepreneur, and other times it will be a smaller publication. Whatever the case, guest blogging often drives market-relevant traffic to the author’s website via their author bio or links within the article.

Generally speaking, this is a pretty time-consuming way to drive traffic to a website, but can pay-off big since it drives immediate traffic and offers backlinks for any SEO rankings you’re working on.

What is guest podcast content?

Guest podcasting refers to when the owner of a website or business is the guest on another market-relevant podcast. Depending on the audience size of the podcast, this can drive a significant amount of traffic to your (the guest’s) website. This is usually done through pitching an idea to a podcast host and then scheduling the interview. Traffic typically arrives through links to the guest’s website in the show notes of the podcast episode.

A quick note about guest blogging and podcasting…

When seeking to guest post for another online publication or be the guest on another business’ podcast, you’ll get the most traffic if you seek out blogs and podcasts that are relevant to your ideal market (i.e. the places that your ideal market is already hanging out). This will ensure that your time isn’t wasted and that you get the best return on your time.
