As always, we’ve put together three email marketing ideas for July — celebrate the 4th of July (of course), encourage referrals during International Friendship Day, and survey your list.
We’ve included subject line, segmentation, and copy examples and recommendations.
Here you go!
1. Fourth of July
The 4th of July is probably the most American holiday there is. It’s a celebration of America’s freedom and the sacrifices that were made to secure it. If your audience is based in the U.S., then the 4th of July is a great time to run a sale or promotion.
Goal Of The Email — The goal of this email is to run a sale or promotion during the 4th of July to create a little burst of revenue.
Segment — This can go to the portion of your list that’s within the U.S.
Subject Line Ideas

2. International Friendship Day
On July 30th a little-known holiday called International Friendship Day takes place. This is a great opportunity to encourage your subscribers to buy gift cards (or your company’s equivalent of gift cards — referrals, subscriptions, etc) for their friends.
Goal Of The Email — The goal of this email is to encourage your existing customers to refer their friends to your products or services.
Segment — You’ll want to send this email to your existing customers.
Subject Line Ideas
- It’s a small world after all
- Happy Friendship Day!
- That’s what friends do.

You might not know this…
But today is International Friendship Day — it’s a day where we celebrate our friendships and say THANK YOU to the people who’ve stuck with us through thick and thin.
What’s the best way to say thank you to a friend?
Well, getting them a $20 gift card to our store isn’t such a bad idea! And we’ll give your friend 10% off everything they purchase with that gift card.
Go get one!
3. Survey Your List
At Email Mastery, we talk a lot about the importance of building a relationship with your email list — one that’s authentic and long-lasting. But to do that, you need to understand the people on your list: what do they think of your products and services… or even of the content you produce? What stops them from buying from you? What makes them cancel their subscription?
The more information you have, the easier it’ll be to create compelling marketing messages for your list. So this month, run a survey! Typeform is probably the best tool for creating a survey.
Goal Of The Survey— The goal of sending a survey to your list is to better understand your audience: their fears, desires, objections, and personalities. The better you understand them, the easier it’ll be to connect with them.
Segment — You can send one survey to your entire list or you could send different surveys to different segments. You might, for example, send one survey to people who’ve purchased from you before to gather information about what they liked and what they didn’t like about your products or services. And you might send another survey to people who haven’t purchased to gather information about what’s keeping them on the fence.
Subject Line Ideas
- Quick Survey & 10% Off!
- 3 Quick Questions
- Have a minute?

Hey!
Do you have a minute?
Every so often, we send out a survey to gather information from our customers (YOU) about what you think we’re doing right… and what you think we’re doing wrong.
Truth is, we WANT your feedback.
Even if it’s negative.
In fact, we’ll give you 10% off your next purchase if you click here and answer 10 questions. It’ll only take a few minutes of your time!
Either way, thanks for being a customer.
Final Thoughts
There you have it!
Celebrate the 4th of July with your U.S.-based audience, encourage referrals on International Friendship Day, and send a survey to your list.
That should set you up for a successful list-growing second half of the year.
We’ll see you in August with more ideas!
